Update on the Dahlia Darlings

I started the process of waking up my overwintered tubers. Earlier this week I took all my tubers out of their cooler, potted them up, and put them on a warming mat set at 72°F/22°C.

I recorded a video of the process but I’m still figuring out how to edit it. My goal is to create a resource page to help you grow beautiful dahlias of your own.

Dahlia Fix

There’s a husband and wife in the UK that have the most magnificent dahlia garden. Every year in the fall they raise money for charity by opening it up to the public. They are lovely and charming. Just like their flowers! I’ve learned a lot from watching their YouTube channel, Dahliaholic.

True Story

Last week I purchased some potting soil from the nursery around the corner and the lady looked at me like I was bananas for starting my tubers so soon. She works in a greenhouse where she could grow dahlias as a perennial, yet she doesn’t.

Now who’s bananas?
